Electronic payment method was introduced to minimise TDS calculation errors and facilitate online transactions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The TDS amount applicable to businesses must be deposited through TDS Challan 281 to the Central Income Tax Department.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TDS can vary according to the service availed by a business. The Income Tax Department is the sole authority to decide these rates. Because of the variance in <a href=\"https:\/\/razorpay.com\/blog\/tds-rate-chart\/\">TDS rates<\/a> from one business to another, filing TDS returns becomes a tedious and time-consuming task that overlaps business management time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read on to know more about the TDS challan 281, methods of making TDS payments and how RazorpayX Payroll is simplifying the entire process for businesses.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tax Challan 281 Explained<\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TDS Challan 281 is used to pay TDS and TCS (Tax Collected at Source) by corporates and non-corporate businesses.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><em><strong>There are 2 modes for making TDS payments &#8211; Online and offline mode.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Online Mode<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Visit TIN-NSDL website<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Select \u2018e-payment: Pay Taxes Online\u2019 from the \u2018Services\u2019 tab<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> Then, select Challan no.\/ITNS 281 from the options<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Step 4:<\/strong> Enter the following details:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul data-read-aloud-multi-block=\"true\">\n<li data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><b>Select deductees<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; 0020 for Company Deductees and 0021 for Non-company Deductees<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><b>Assessment year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Choose the relevant assessment year<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Tax Deduction Account Number (TAN)<\/strong> &#8211; Enter 10-digit TAN issued to the persons who are required to deduct or collect tax<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><b>Type of payment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Choose 200 for a regular TDS\/TCS transaction and 400 for payment made for a demand raised by the income tax authorities<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><b>Nature of payment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Select the relevant nature of payment from the drop-down list<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><b>Details of payment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Enter the amount of tax along with the date and bank branch<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Step 5:<\/strong> Click on \u2018<\/span><b>Submit to Bank<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 after filing all the details\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Step 6:<\/strong> On confirmation of payment, the party is issued a CIN or Challan Identification Number<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Offline Mode<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TDS payment can also be made by personally visiting the bank and submitting the challan. After submitting the challan, the bank will issue a bank-stamped counterfoil receipt as proof of payment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rules for TDS payment<\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Specific rules govern payment of Tax Deducted at Source (TDS). They are:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul data-read-aloud-multi-block=\"true\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TDS must be deducted at the time of payment or when the payment is due \u2013 whichever is earlier<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If there is a delay in TDS deduction, interest will be levied at the rate of 1% per month<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" data-speechify-sentence=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The deducted amount for any month must be deposited with the government by the 7th of the following month.
